I saw this mural today and wanted to do a trick in front of it, so I did. Gotta work on my heel flips. I guess if I’m not doing them to slide I don’t really have them all that good. Oh well, always room for improvement.
This is one of my favorite photos with Mackenzie and I. Two of the things I love the most in life....my daughter and my skateboard. I’m actually having this blown up onto a small canvas to hang on the wall.
Funny story about this picture I took of my buddy Dan last night during Thrashin Thursday. My original idea was for him to do a wallride, then I said naw because I didn’t want to feel guilty if his board flew into the water. Well literally one second after I snapped this shot, Dan hit one of the rubber cracks in the ground and the board flew right in. I felt bad because it was my idea in the first place. Good news is it was a @powellperalta “Flight” board he was riding and the pop shouldn’t be compromised. Yeah I’m a great friend for making my friends do things where something bad typically happens for my amusement. Sorry Dan.
Wishing my longtime homie Daniel Shimizu a farewell to professional skateboarding. Last Saturday he held his “Retirement party” in LA. I tried stopping by but saw there was way too many people in a smaller place than I was expecting for my anxiety not to fly off the charts. So since I didn’t get a photo with him on the night of his retirement, I’ll just post this one from the time he dressed up as Steve Ingvar Olson (Shorty’s one, not Santa Cruz) & I dressed as @erickoston during @useless_wooden_knowledge night at @blackhwood. Good luck @dshimizu on your future endeavors and welcome to the just for fun club. On a side note, Daniel and I used to ride for a clothing company called Deviant in the 1995 which is how I originally met him. Stoked to still hang with him after all these years.
Okay, time to throwback to 1994. A brace faced kid skating for Channel One skateboards a little after my ankle injury. What some people don’t know is the doctor told me originally that I wouldn’t skate anymore. I told him yeah right. After my surgery they told me to take it easy, which I did. I started skating handrails instead of gaps. Hahaha! The filming of this took place during my rehabilitation time. At the time, I wasn’t hyped on my abilities since I knew I had so much more that I could do. Now looking back I’m hyped on the part. Was a fun time for sure. Funny this was me at my skinniest, yet I was wearing some of the biggest clothing. Thanks to my boy Bryan Paz (Rest in peace) for filming and including me in the “Perfect World” video.
One of the tricks I did in my part that I was pretty proud of was the heelflip nose to crooks. I had been wanting to do one for awhile and finally got this one. I had tried it at another spot prior, but didn’t make it that day. This day I specifically went to get it and made a few just before heading into work. Feels good to do a trick you’ve never done. Thanks again @26_and_up_ for filming.
This past Sunday the OTC (Over Thirty Crew) and I took a trip down to the IE and had a fun little sesh. I always enjoy these times. No politics, no worries, and all fun. Till the next Sunday Funday. Full length edit on my Vimeo and YouTube channel.
Here’s a line I did yesterday just because I was there and haven’t gotten any clips here before. Wasn’t happy with any of the tricks in the line. But I made the line fairly quickly and after already exhausted from the day. Next time I go back I’ll film something I’m happy with. Thanks for filming though @babillions.
