Heebie Jeebies here we go. The American or common household spider. Common house spiders are nuisance pests, but they pose no threats to humans though certain humans may be affected by it. House spiders have a difficult time surviving in modern homes due to low humidity and fewer insects for food. They are more likely to prosper inside structures like garages, sheds, barns and warehouses. Outside, these domestic spiders are often around windows and under eaves, especially near light sources that attract prey. The house spider randomly selects its web locations and creates a tangled web. If a web does not yield prey it is abandoned, another site is selected, and a new web is built. Their prey mechanism is similar to that of the other cobweb spiders: the spider follows disturbances transmitted along the web to entangle and then paralyze its prey, which usually consists of household insects and other invertebrates. This guy got one hell of a meal. I believe he/she is eating a wolf spider. 🕷 #largespider #spider #arachnid #darkfishingspider #insect #creepycrawler #wildlife #nature #newjersey #photography #wildlifephotography #animalsofinstagram #themoreyouknow #newjersey

Let me be very clear....Spiders especially large ones (excluding the uber cute jumping spider) give me the heebie jeebies. I won't touch them.....ever. But this one was too cool not to take a picture of. This is a female dark fishing spider. They are called fishing spiders because most live near water and have been reported to catch small fish and aquatic insects from the water as they walk on the surface. They live near bodies of water, wooded areas and are common invaders to homes. Although it is able to bite humans, it is a shy spider that will run from people. Bites are typically no more severe than a bee or wasp sting. Exceptions do occur for individuals who are sensitive to spider venoms. The young are guarded by the female in a nursery web and may number 1,000 or more. This large female was on the side of my house guarding her thousands of babies....I ran away shortly after taking this. 🕷#largespider #spider #arachnid #darkfishingspider #insect #creepycrawler #wildlife #nature #newjersey #photography #wildlifephotography #animalsofinstagram #themoreyouknow #zoomin #babies
