A nonstop week was the impetus for a bit of an extravagant rush-job pull - I think this sat patiently in my cellar for a whole 14 days before the cork came out. Cayuse assistant winemaker and No Girls winemaker Elizabeth Bourcier is the visionary behind La Rata, and a sublime bottle of Priorat that she tasted at just the right moment is its catalyst: Grenache and Cabernet, each from top Cayuse vineyards (Armada and En Cerise respectively), co-fermented this year with a little Syrah (because Rocks, because Washington) to create this terroir lucid dream that all but stops time. This is a Mad Max hellscape of an aromatic profile, salt pillars and kerosene and axle grease and dried blood, yet it is also liltingly alluring, the freshest bouquet of violets alongside melted stones and deer carcasses. The mouthfeel is out of this world, liquid reality, as if everything surrounding you turns to silk the second the wine hits your tongue. Iodine combines with porcini, bone marrow, blackberry, lilacs, dashi broth, jet fuel and a used charcoal grime that just burrows into the senses; so pretty, so feral, so funky. The most composed picture of elegance made up somehow of the most chaotic umami hailstorm; sensory overload that leaves not a hair out of place. This may be one of my favourite wines I’ve ever had from the Cayuse empire. Definitely my craziest @full_pull_wines pull.
