So the day is finally here for the book release of “Peínate: Hair Battles Between Latina Mothers & Daughters”. Gratefully, my essay is being featured in this anthology, and though I’ve known about this for months, I couldn’t find it in me to embrace this accomplishment and feel deserving of it. In fact, I’m having a hard time writing this now, to be honest. These past few months I’ve spiraled into one of my deepest bouts of depression and I will NOT continue to allow this disease to rob me of everything I’ve ever wanted - including living the writer’s life, becoming more present to myself and to my loved ones, accomplishing the goals I’ve been dreaming about for as long as I can remember, and most importantly, what I feel I was put on this Earth to do... raise #mentalhealthawareness. Just to name a few of the many, many things depression has robbed me from. Unfortunately.
As I’ve mentioned, I’ve known about this book launch for months and though I just reached out 2 days ago to a handful of my friends and family, here is the information of the event happening tonight @wordupbooks presented by @laplumaylatinta ❤️ Congratulations to everyone involved! I’m beginning to feel super excited about tonight and about the book 🙏🏽
Cheers to an amazing evening 🍾🥂
