A cute little old Greek woman once asked me if I knew why Greece was so beautiful and shared this anecdote with me. She said when God created the heavens and the earth, He called upon all the people of the world to hand out all the nations to them. "I will be accepting requests until Saturday" He made very clear, "and on Sunday I will rest". Early Monday morning the Germans were already in queue, and so He gave them a big beautiful country in the heart of Europe. Shortly after, in an orderly line came the Chinese. They were many so he gave them the great land now known as China. On Tuesday came the English, the French, the Italians and the Indians, and they were all given a beautiful piece of land to call their home. Wednesday came the Africans with all their colourful clothes and so He granted them all of Africa. Later in the week came the Russians and we're granted a large frozen land in the north. Finally, on Saturday came the rest of the people and were given whatever land was left. And so on Sunday, pleased with His work, God sat back and took some rest. But it was not long before the Greeks showed up at His door demanding a homeland too. -"What is it my children? Did I not say Sunday was a day of rest?" The Greeks apologized and explained that they too needed a place to call home. -"But why did you not come earlier, I'm afraid I have already handed out all the land and there is nothing left." The Greeks apologized and said they were too busy enjoying life and saw the long lines of people and decided they would go later but forgot. God laughed and said "you too are my children and the cleverest of the bunch, you may have this little spot I had kept for myself"
