#TacitaDean's new slate drawings are an integral component to #LAExuberance, closing on Saturday here at FSG. Dean used spray chalk, gouache, and white charcoal pencil atop Victorian-era school slates, adding grids and lines to give formal structure to the amorphous nature of clouds. They take their titles from 'A Complete Concordance to Shakespeare' - pictured here is 'Disperse that cloud' (2016) ☁️

Friends in Los Angeles—the talk “Urban Ecology and Archeology in Contemporary Art Practice” will be held tomorrow—Monday, March 20 at 7:30PM, at LACMA. This conversation by Anna Sew Hoy, Mark Hagen and Analia Saban, all artists exhibiting in “L.A. Exuberance: New Gifts by Artists” at the museum, will address contemporary art practice in Southern California. “As some artists draw upon the legacies of found objects and assemblage, as well as Los Angeles's urban landscape, this panel will discuss the urban ecology and archeology in their materials and approaches. The ways in which building materials, multiple fabrication methods, and the industrial setting of many studio locations will be discussed. Rita Gonzalez, curator and acting department head of contemporary art at LACMA, will moderate the conversation.” #AnnaSewHoy #MarkHagen #AnaliaSaban #RitaGonzalez #LACMA #LAexuberance #ArtistsPractice #UrbanEcologyArcheology #ContemporaryArtPractice
