As dawn began to break we slowly made our way out of the Khumbu Icefall and into to Western Cwm. The warm temperatures of late May had created a challenging route, but the Icefall Doctors had done a spectacular job. Twelve days of rest had left my legs slow and lethargic. The night of climbing had only barely managed to shake them back to life. Now with the sun creeping higher in the sky, my climb was a race against time... a race against the rising sun...a race against the heat. I must make it to Camp 2 (21,300' 6500m) before the heat of the high altitude sun becomes unbearable. The race was on.
