Ulupamir is a village of Kyrgz displaced from Wakhan, Afghanistan in 1978. They at first fled to Pakistan, but found that the climate was too harsh to adjust to. They then received permission to resettle in Alaska, Germany, and Turkey. The largest group settled in the Van Province.
