“I’ve never met an animal I didn’t like, which means I’m constantly picking up stray and abandoned animals. In the last 20 years, I think a rough tally would be one rooster, four chickens, two crows, two seagulls, five rabbits, a mole, a vole, a Canada goose, two Peking ducks, at least 12 cats if we’re also counting kittens, and more than two dozen dogs.
It all started with the first dog my husband and I adopted together—a feisty little akita mix we named Dallas, who trained with me through five marathons and was part of our family for 16 years.
Since then, we’ve always adopted our animals, and we have a soft spot for the ones with issues and seniors. We went to Cuba last year and saw how the street dogs were living. It really stayed with me and when we got home I started doing research on organizations that helped to rescue them. We just adopted our newest dog from Cuba. I know one adoption doesn’t change the world, but it changes the world for one dog.” - Corry A.
