Today I have another book stack for #BannedBookWeek to celebrate one of my favorite writers who also happened to be a very outspoken opponent of censorship. He himself said, "All these people talk so eloquently about getting back to good old-fashioned values. Well, as an old poop I can remember back to when we had those old-fashioned values, and I say let's get back to the good old-fashioned First Amendment of the good old-fashioned Constitution of the United States — and to hell with the censors! Give me knowledge or give me death!" ⠀
Anyone else a Vonnegut fan out there? If so, what is your favorite book written by him.⠀

Last night the cast of God Bless You, Mr. Rosewater began rehearsal. Opens October 19 #ticketsinlinkinbio #CAPRosewater #godblessyoumrrosewater #kurtvonnegut #musicaltheater #mainetheater

🤘🏻 Write the Damn Thing!
Key aspect of screenwriting: THEME
#Theme is the message and the end of the story. Someone once said that stories are #ideas wrapt in a coating of #narrative. The “theme” is part of that idea you take away after having enjoyed all the drama and adventure.
A good story has its “theme” layered across all of it. It impregnates every decision the character makes. It’s always there supporting the structure of the story, but it shouldn’t be too obvious as to make the story feel preachy and child-like. A delicate balance must be struck.
Themes are usually universal and broad. Some writers find it along the way, other use it as a springboard.
Day 3 task:
Now for our daily task, what you should do is write down the THEME of the script you read yesterday. After you are done with that you should write down the theme of your own story.
What do you want to say about the subject you are tackling with your story? What is the message you want the audience to take home after the credits start rolling?
Now for the quote of the day:
“Do you realize that all great literature is all about what a bummer it is to be a human being? Isn't it such a relief to have somebody say that?”
― Kurt Vonnegut, Jr., A Man Without a Country

Happy #BannedBooksWeek! 🚫📚 Quite a many of my favorite classics and authors have been challenged, banned, silenced and censored. Even literally burned 🔥 As you can tell by the number of copies of Fahrenheit 451 here, and if you've followed me long enough - recognize that one used to be my shop logo, I have all the feelings about these practices. Here is what my main man Kurt Vonnegut (pictured in plush form 👨🏽) had to say in a letter to the head of a North Dakota school board who burned Slaughterhouse-Five in their furnace in 1973. It sums up how the smallest minds ban books, for all the wrong reasons: "If you were to bother to read my books, to behave as educated persons would, you would learn that they are not sexy, and do not argue in favor of wildness of any kind. They beg that people be kinder and more responsible than they often are. It is true that some of the characters speak coarsely. That is because people speak coarsely in real life. Especially soldiers and hardworking men speak coarsely, and even our most sheltered children know that. And we all know, too, that those words really don’t damage children much. They didn’t damage us when we were young. It was evil deeds and lying that hurt us." 💙✌🏻️📖💭 But of course, "You don't have to burn books to destroy a culture. Just get people to stop reading them." - Ray Bradbury

Not sure if it’s the full moon 🌑or just my tender 🧡heart 😢weeping.... these past few days I have been wrestling with regret... Definitely a painful and unwelcome bedfellow...

“There are plenty of good reasons for fighting...but no good reason to ever hate without reservation, to imagine that God Almighty hates with you, too. Where's evil? It's that large part of every man that wants to hate without limit, that wants to hate with God on its side. It's that part of every man that finds all kinds of ugliness so attractive....it's that part of an imbecile that punishes and vilifies and makes war gladly.” I don’t know how I have waited this long to read this book, but what a perfect moment in time to do so. #kurtvonnegut #mothernight

“Bizarre travel plans are dancing lessons from god”, said Kurt Vonnegut

Somehow today ended up in an otherworldly daze somewhere between Ft. Davis and Balmorhea in the craggily Davis/Barrilla Mountains
This scenery reminds me of the animated movie The Point, that Harry Nilsson wrote, and Ringo Starr narrated. Anyone else remember that flick?

I'm starting Slaughterhouse five by kurt Vonnegut tonight. Have you read it, or any other book by Vonnegut?
