It was supposed to be cloudy and rain on my run today, and it was... for the first mile. As you can see, that quickly changed, and it sucked. I'm not griping, I'm just being flat out honest. The blazing sun, 1,000% humidity, a tank, tall compression socks, and a towel on Emma were just not a good mix. By mile 3 we were both soo miserably hot that I had to stop at the house to take off my tank, take off the towel Emma had on her, and ditch the big stuffed animal she'd brought along. I was so annoyed that the weather had changed and we needed to stop at home, but today would have been Delaneys (a former-student-of-mine) birthday so I proceeded on. I fought like hell until the very end, just like she did with her life. I talked to her on my entire last mile, begged her to give me her wings, and joked that the sun was all her doing. The girl loved the sun and heat, and I'd always tell her she was crazy because I hated it. She would have been 22 today, and I've celebrated her birthday every single year since she came into my life, and every year since she went to heaven. So even though this run was really hard, I knew the every day struggles she dealt with were SO much harder, so I didn't give up.
