GINGER soothes the stomach. It relaxes the gastrointestinal tract by blocking receptors that cause nausea, much like anti-nausea. It tones the muscles in the intestine and stimulates the breakdown of food particles, promoting motility in the gastrointestinal tract and assisting in transporting food and other substances out of the intestines. Thus, ginger can help soothe the gas pains, digest and metabolize fats and relieve common stomach pains. One of the yummy ginger preparations is the GINGER ALE. However the store brought ginger ale contains very little ginger, is artificially flavored and does not provide the same health benefits as using the fresh herb. But you can make ginger syrup fairly easily on the stove top with jaggery, and then add soda water, salt, lemon, mint and ice to enjoy homemade ginger ale.
