#missg_romeoandjuliet ANALYSIS BELOW
"UNDER LOVE'S HEAVY BURDEN DO I SINK" #metaphor Romeo is weighed down by his love for Rosaline. Love is a negative emotion for Romeo at the beginning of the play - he is depressed because the love is unrequited.
"IF LOVE BE ROUGH WITH YOU, BE ROUGH WITH LOVE". #Personification. Mercutio is much more cynical and realistic about love. He suggests that Romeo should take control of his emotions. Mercutio is also fixates on the physical aspects of love.
"MY ONLY LOVE SPRUNG FROM MY ONLY HATE". This line sums up the contrasting themes of the play. Juliet has discovered that Romeo is a Montague. She is confused about her feelings and feels she is a victim of the feud. .
"JULIET IS THE SUN" #metaphor. Romeo speaks about Juliet when he arrives in the balcony scene. Juliet represents the sunrise to him. She has taken him out of the darkness he felt in his love for Rosaline. Juliet is a light in his life (link to 'bright angel'). Light and dark imagery are used throughout the play.
"WITH LOVE'S LIGHT WINGS DID I O'ERPERCH THESE WALLS" #metaphor. Romeo explains to Juliet how he got into the Capulet garden. This metaphor contrasts with the previous quotation (see image below). Romeo is no longer weighed down by love. Love is now lifting him up to be with Juliet. Difficult tasks, such as climbing a high wall, are easy to him now he has Juliet's love.
