I've wanted to pick up a mannequin for years so that I could really study and adjust my studio lighting techniques (most of which I learned off of YouTube videos). So when this full mannequin popped up in my search last week for only $45, I got in touch with the seller right away. She, the mannequin, is broken here & there, but who isn't?
What should we name her?
This is a quick study on key/main light source (with no other light sources):
Camera about 5ft from subject, using 50mm lens on tripod. RAW images set to portrait profile, exposure levels adjusted, and no other changes were made. The differences you see are purely a result of the type and position of the key light.
Images 1-5: bare flash unit
Images 6-10: a homemade "#RingLight", which I may tell you about sometime.
1&6: Flash on top of camera, ring light behind camera such that camera was in dead zone of ring
2&7: Camera left (level with position 1)
3&8: Camera left and about 30 degrees high (from mannequin)
4&9: Camera right
5&10: Camera right and 30 degrees high
Which image has the lighting you like best? (There isn't necessarily a right answer here...) #JuxPhoto #Photography #KeyLight #Lesson #Mannequin #WhatShouldWeNameHer #Studio #StudioPhotography #Art #FineArt #SdPhotographer #PowayPhotographer #Poway #SoCalPhotographer #sandiegogram #nbc7
