Still want to skip your workout?!? On the pic to the left I was trying out my sister in laws pants as a joke. I had already dropped 30+ pounds and I remember telling her and my husband as they snapped the pic, "Just you wait! I'm going to fit into this outfit soon!" My sister in law allowed me keep the outfit for motivation. Every day as I walked/ran that familiar road as I'd done so many evenings before, the image of what I should/could/would look like appeared in my head. The overpowering feeling of what it would feel like for my feet to not hurt anymore, or for once to not feel so tired and fatigued. It's what pushed me to walk another step, it's what drove me to eat a salad instead of pie, it's what encouraged me to not give up every time things got tough. And at any point I ever felt like giving in or giving up, I'd pull out the outfit and remind myself that I made a commitment, a promise, a vow to myself. Kettlebell lifting and in particular the rest positions in Girevoy Sport come under fire a lot. "Doesn't that hurt your back?" or blatant criticisms about how terrible this type of lifting is for the body are something I hear and see posted constantly about kettlebells. While there are obviously risks an athlete takes when competing in GS at a high level (like any other athlete in a repetitive sport), when the rest positions are properly used they are simply employing bone stacking to enhance efficiency. Notice that I said "when the rest positions are properly used", which means the athlete using them must have the required mobility, stability, and strength. The lower back is one of the main areas of the body that will compensate if the conditions listed above are not met (for almost any type of movement out there). If the athlete meets the requirements for getting into the position properly, however, all the rack position is doing is loading the weight of the kettlebells onto the hips and legs. The thoracic spine must be mobile enough to flex and the hip flexors must be flexible enough to create a shelf for the elbows, otherwise the lower back WILL be overloaded. The overhead position also employs bone stacking, as the weight of the bells is loaded over the shoulders and hips, with elbows locked. Again, adequate flexibility of the shoulders, upper back, pecs, and/or hip flexors will prevent the lower back from compensating. Hurting your back while lifting kettlebells or weightlifting in general typically has much more to do with your level of mobility, stability, and strength with regard to the movements you are doing than the actual tool. ANTI-Rotation Training for Golfers 🏌
The Single Arm Suitcase Deadlift is one of those exercises that is packed with tremendous benefit for golfers. This exercise challenges an athlete's ability to resist rotational forces from acting on and within the body (especially when we don't want it to happen). The unilateral nature of this exercise can improve overall muscle balance and midline stability. These two qualities have the ability to reduce injury risk and elevate golfing performance. For successful execution of this movement, you should be able to cleanly hinge at the hips while maintaining the shoulders and hips squarely level. Additionally, if performed in front of a mirror, aim to keep your nose inline with your belly button.

Feel like you have mastered your KB Turkish Get Up? How about adding a shoulder press to each phase of the movement, coach Isabella shows us how we can add a few shoulder presses into our TGU. What we thought was great about this is the addition of the shoulder press increases your time under tension which is one of the best elements in the TGU. To make sure this is done safely and properly, we need to first make sure we can handle a strong stability hold with proper alignment at each phase of the movement before trying to add a shoulder press into the mix.
