Kevin Harvick won the Saturday night edition of Kansas! This is his *fourth official win of the season, forty-second of his career.
•Continuing his dominance from Dover, Kevin #Harvick led the first 31 laps until the competition caution. Kyle #Larson, who started dead last, gained 30 positions in 20 laps as he rocketed inside the top ten. On pit road, Ryan #Blaney got by Harvick, and he took the lead on the restart. Blaney would lead the rest of Stage 1 as all of Stewart-Haas Racing and Team Penske finished in the top ten. He had to hold off an aggressive Harvick to do so.
•To begin Stage 2, Harvick retook the lead, followed by Blaney, Brad #Keselowski, Joey #Logano, and Larson. 45 laps later, under green flag pit stops, Larson gained heavily on Harvick and passed him to claim the point. Larson checked out and led the rest of the stage. Stewart-Haas Racing all finished in the top ten again.
•On the final stage restart, Larson once again checked out, followed distantly by Blaney and Harvick. Later, during green flag pit stops, Ricky #Stenhouse Jr gambled once again, but it didn't pay off as there were no cautions. Larson resumed leading. With less than 30 laps to go, a restart involved Blaney pushing Larson into Turn 1, getting loose, and fading. Harvick and Larson battled door to door for the lead, and Logano pushed Harvick to the point. Then, Blaney collided with Larson, slamming the wall and cutting Larson's tire. The following pit sequence had Logano, Martin #Truex Jr, and others stay out as Harvick led Kyle #Busch off of pit road. So, with 15 laps to go, Erik #Jones cut to the bottom, eliminating Logano and promoting Truex. However, off of Turn 4, Byron nose-dived into the wall, taking out Clint #Bowyer and others. After the red flag and on the final restart, Truex easily got to the point as Logano had to hold off Jones. Harvick, aka "The Closer," jumped to 2nd and proceeded to track down Truex to win the race!
