Another one of the great talents I had the pleasure to work with was legendary engineer/mastering engineer/producer Nick Blagona. Nick is a fountain of stories which he treated me to while we worked on my music in a series of sessions.
Nick was a partner in Le Studio: Morin Heights which was a groundbreaking studio in Québec where the world's biggest artists stayed and recorded in a remote location.
Later he worked out of Metalworks and Jukassa among others.
Some of the behind the scenes stories involving the likes of the Rolling Stones I can't repeat. But think of this....Nick has points (residuals)from his work on incredibly successful projects including Saturday Night Fever with the Bee Gees and Smoke On The Water by Deep Purple. It was fascinating to hear his inside scoop on unusual artists like Cat Stevens (he calls him Steve) with whom he recorded three albums. In addition he worked with the Police, Kim Mitchell, Alexisonfire, The Moody Blues and others too numerous to mention. You can imagine what it is like for me to get the benefit of those golden ears.
As an aside, I have to tell you to check out his hilarious theme song " I Want To Work With Nick Blagona" which was recorded for him by musicians from the soundtrack to O Brother where Art Thou.
Next up, my time with Jeff Healey.
