@thekennerboy and I are wrapping up our weekly #mailawaymonday feature. Today's Kenner mail away, and unfortunately the last, is the Free Coin offer. My last post described the actual offer sticker. Here's some info on the actual Mail Away item...the coins!! In total, there were 62 Collector Coins available during the Power of the Force line release (1984-85). Thirty-five of them came with the figures released on POTF cards at retail: "the Last 15" (yes 15.....Lumat and Paploo were first released on ROTJ cards) and 20 figures re-released from the previous 3 lines (including Lumat and Paploo). The remaining 27 coins were available only through the mail away offer. Pic 5: Kenner mailed back one of the 62 at random. This mailaway, unlike previous ones, did not come with a mini catalog.
Apparently it was possible to request an entire set of 62 coins, if you wrote to Kenner specifically asking for it and included $30 (see pic 4)
A single coin (pic 5) required: 1) one proof of purchase 2) the coin offer sticker cut, not peeled 🤔 3)and dated cash register receipt. The sticker details read: "Kenner will randomly select and send you 1 of 62 coins. Offer void where prohibited. Offer expires January 31, 1986. Allow 10-12 weeks for shipment. Offer good in USA only"
Today, a complete set of POTF coins is valued at roughly $14,000 !! In December of 2015, 2 complete sets sold at a Sotheby's auction for $27,500.
How could these coins be worth that much you ask?! Check out pic 6. Recently, a Greedo coin alone (definitely one of the rarest coins) sold for $3325 on eBay!
As cool as these coins are, I'm glad I don't seriously collect them 😅. #StarWars #ANewHope #EmpireStrikesBack #ReturnoftheJedi #starwarsfigure #starwarstoys #starwarstoy #actionfigure #starwarscollectible #starwarsactionfigures #starwarscollector #theForceAwakens #rogueone #Kenner #Kennertoys #vintagetoys #vintagetoy #starwarscollection
