Happy 10 year Type 1 Diabetes Anniversary to me. Here's to the ups and the downs and the highs and the low, and to everyone who got me here.
I can't say that it'd been easy or that I have done everything I could do, but I can promise I will keep fighting. 10 years is a long time but I pray that it's going to be many many more.
I had someone seem shocked that I will be taking approximately 5 needles and 6 finger pricks for every day for the rest of my life. It was a hard reality for me too, knowing that I am stuck with this for life. The circle represents the never ending cycle of diabetes and the fact that I will have it for life. The runes? It means I am GREATER than the highs and the lows.
I will not let my diabetes define me but I will define what diabetes looks like. Happy 10 years to my 11 year old self that thought diabetes was a death sentence. We are doing it kid, and while it's a struggle, it's the most beautiful fight we have ever fought.
