Looking back over the years (began my journey at 37) at progression and a tad bit regression (physically, mentally, and emotionally). When I decided to begin this journey of #HealingFromTheInsideOut my goal was to deal with some traumatic experiences from my past and my health. When I began this journey I didn't jump right into physical fitness...therapy is what I needed and then fitness came in to help me release my feelings through taking it out on machines and dumbbells instead of people (being negative) and myself (food and alcohol). Then came learning how to #ChangeYourRelationshipWithFood which took me a good two years for me to really buckle down and find what works for me. I was my own experiment because there's so much information out there that it overwhelmed me and made my anxiety high. So I just decided to #KeepItSuperSimple and have what I want in moderation without deprivation and found it's what works best for me.

Living a healthy lifestyle has SAVED my life because I was on a path of self destruction. This is not just about working out but working through some chapters in life that are difficult to deal with. We all have a story of our journey and piece by piece I will share with the world.

Never give up on yourself because you are in fact stronger than you think you are. You are capable of creating structure and healthy habits for longevity. I living proof.

Ok, so not really a word, but am guessing you know exactly what it means.⠀

Hardolism is fun sucking, life draining, and a perpetuating cycle.⠀

But it doesn’t have to be. To overcome your addiction, you have to learn to slow down, relax, and take a break.⠀

Sunday’s are often a good time to do such a thing. And starting small with just one day of the week to chill may be a good start. To have nothing on your plate may feel uncomfortable and squeamish, but with practice, it will get easier.⠀

So for today (or next Sunday) try⠀
Saying “no” to one more thing to do, or⠀
Letting something go, or⠀
Be kind and self-compassionate to yourself.⠀

You might look at CG Campers and think “those ladies don’t have anything else to do except workout.” You would be wrong!! These ladies have so many things going on and they COULD use that as an excuse but they do NOT!! They realize that taking care of themselves is the BEST thing they can do not just for themselves, but for everyone around them. Not just strong, #CGStrong !! #CGFamily #CGFit #KeepItSuperSimple

What makes a carb smart?⠀

Because of the benefits they provide to our body, such as kind to our blood sugar, hormones and digestion.⠀
-⠀
They are whole, relatively minimally processed, nutrient dense (vitamins, minerals, phytonutrients), and high in fiber carbs.⠀
-⠀
Examples of smart carbs include all fruit (fresh or frozen), starchy vegetables (potatoes, squash, corn), whole, minimally processed grains (brown or wild rice, slow cooking oats, quinoa), and beans and legumes. ⠀
-⠀
To keep things simple, enjoy 1-3 cupped handfuls with each meal. If you eat more frequently, include 1 serving. If you only eat 2-3 meals per day, then you can enjoy more, up to 3 servings per meal.⠀

You can also adjust your carbs based on your activity. If you are mostly sedentary, eat fewer carbs. If you are an active person, then eat more of these smart carbs. ⠀

Don’t forget about the other carbs...the ones you typically find in a box (mac-n-cheese, pasta, crackers, chips). They count too in the servings mentioned above. They just are not as health-promoting as these. Save these carbs for that 20% (or less) (see my earlier post about the 80/20 rule).⠀

When you are visiting with someone, are you really listening or are you thinking about how you are going to respond?⠀

I have a really bad habit of thinking about how I’m going to respond versus actively listening. I also notice that I do better (or worse) depending on the individual, my mood, and my environment.⠀

Yet, being able to give someone my full attention in a conversation is a SKILL I can practice and hone - and one that I would really like to improve!⠀

You may be asking what does this have to do with me? Well, good listening is mindful listening. And mindful listening CULTIVATES MEANINGFUL RELATIONSHIPS with family, friends, and even colleagues. Mindfulness also means living in the present moment, not in the past or the future, but in the NOW. ⠀

In an effort to deepen relationships, here is an acronym we can implement to help remind us of our practice:⠀
-⠀
H - HALT - Stop whatever you are doing and give your full attention to the other person. (This includes putting your phone down!)⠀
E - ENJOY - Take a deep breath to experience joy as you CHOOSE to receive what is being communicated.⠀
A - ASK - Don’t hesitate to ask for clarification if you don’t understand completely. As I have said before, don’t make an assumption. Instead get curious and be open to the conversation.⠀
R - REFLECT - Reflect back what you just heard. This action affirms that you were truly listening and they’ve been heard. ⠀

Who has torn me down the most?
ME! I’m very hard on myself, hateful at times. The older I get and the work I do on myself, I understand why. But I’ve had to ask for help by seeking counseling. -
Being honest about needing professional help is a little hard for me to share. Why? Pride I suppose. I’m embarrassed. But in reality I have no reason to be, right? This is part of who I am and I want you to know me for who I am. -
It feels really good to be able to talk about my s*^# and not feel judged. It feels comforting to be able to talk to someone who has an unbiased opinion. I feel a sense of relief being able to talk about whatever I want. -
Changing your internal conversations takes work. More than slapping on some positivity. It’s helpful, but possibly just a bandaid.

I know how it feels when you tell yourself you have no one in your corner. It’s a lie though! I’m here! I’m in your corner- here to listen, a shoulder to cry on. -
No more tearing yourself down. It’s time to rebuild a STRONGER version of you! -

It is delicious, easy, and family-approved!⠀

The chicken sausage that the recipe calls for is full of flavor and lean! I actually use two packages to bump up the protein.⠀

I use a "sugar-free" marinara.⠀

I don't use all the noodles. I maybe use only 4 ounces.⠀

And I improvise on the cheese too - I've subbed cottage cheese for the ricotta and just added some dried parsley and basil. I can't ever find the basil chiffonade locally. ⠀

This recipe is overall lower in fat, thus calories when compared to lasagna. You can control the amount of cheese you use! Also makes it allergy friendly for my dairy allergy kid. -
It really does taste just like lasagna! Enjoy!
