Discipline is the bridge between goals and accomplishments.”- Jim Rohn
I was reading an article last week, based on how discipline is essential to being an artist. As I continued to read I drew direct correlations between my art making, yoga practice and life. Discipline is so essential not only for my art making, but my well-being. Structure and organization clear my head and give me the breathing space I need to be artistic. Take the ashtanga practice, knowing the sequence of asanas by memory and movement allows your mind to be at ease as well as creates a meditative practice that does not require music or other outside remedies to create a peaceful environment. The peace is within you. Everything you need is within yourself, its just up to you to unveil it. With my art and yoga, sometimes my struggle is just showing up….. once I show up I am present in heart, body and soul. I feel and remember why I love these things so much. I have never left painting or yoga with regret. Both are a form of meditation and natural medication for my soul. But I can’t receive if I am not present. My growth possibilities are infinite and unimaginable, but without disciple they do not exist.
Techniques to develop disciple: •Have a routine
•Work on one thing at a time
•Make a list .
Work on one thing at a time! What is your priority? I have found myself good at many things and then I’m juggling so many at once, but not giving any of them 100%. Starting this school year I have eliminated unnecessary things that are not my priority so that I have space for what I really need to do. ••Do you have any tips for creating discipline that have worked for you?
