Liverpool have moved ahead of neighbours Everton and arch rivals Manchester United in the pursuit of Michael Keane report the Express.
Despite being latecomers to the party having only lodged their interest in the Burnley centre-back a few days ago, the Reds are now believed to be in pole position with manager Jurgen Klopp prepared to make the 24-year-old one of the mainstays of his defence next season.
Everton have been long-time suitors of Keane with manager Ronald Koeman going public on his admiration for the player on more than one occasion.
However, the ECHO reported on Monday that Everton were now looking at alternatives after Keane's former club Manchester United had entered the race to sign him.
A fee of up to £30million is being mooted for the Stockport-born star and it he didn't return to Old Trafford, the Red Devils will be entitled to 25% of the price tag following a clause inserted into his Clarets contract on moving to Turf Moor in 2015 following a loan spell.
