Just re-listened to Kendrick’s good kid, m.A.A.d city in its entirety for the first time in a while, and I have to say that its gotten better with age. Despite To Pimp a Butterfly being his greatest work of art, GKMC isn’t that far off. The story telling of K. Dot has always been shoulders above the competition, but this is his superior album as a tale from a Compton kid trying to deal with the demons surrounding him, temptations of murder, drugs, and alcohol, and finding his own way. It’s my favorite Kendrick project because I still remember listening to it on my 8th grade school field trip to Washington D.C., and the vibrations that rattled my ear buds have only been amplified as time has gone on. It’s the project I have the strongest emotional attachment to, and it just reassures me of why I’m such a big fan of Kenny, and is one of my favorites of all time.
