This is the #traditionalpreparation of #kava #pipermethysticum from #southpentecost #pentecost #Vanuatu which I have not shared publicly except in research until now. Kava is a beverage made from the #toots and #stump of the #plant.
I have been researching this amazing #intoxicating plant and beverage for over 1.5 years. As a kava researcher I hold immense respect for the #kavaculture and in my travels to the mainland I truly can see how the traditional context is blown out of proportion and appropriated into a marketing scheme. I'll reiterate here: my experience with kava on the mainland has lead me to conclude that kava bars are more interested in marketing and creating a superficial reality by appropriating #Oceanic societies #Oceania and the culture around kava. I'm totally OK with people experiencing this magnificent plant warrior who provides a plethora of benefits and healing, I just wish that those who are in the business in this regard would do it in a more respectful way as opposed to catering to Western consumers. For me, the cultural, social, and medicinal dynamics that really create the experience is more important then formulating marketing schemes around a #sacred, traditional drink.
