Katia Labeque along with her younger sister Marielle have been playing on stages from all over the world. Their music education began early and as a duo, they have played the classical music repertoire from romantic to baroque allowing themselves to explore further on contemporary and popular music such as Gershwin or Bernstein.
Katia has been from the 2 sisters the one that seemed the most curious and adventurous. Her meeting with John McLaughlin in the early 80’s made her participate to his band for two albums: “Belo Horizonte and Music Spoken Here”. That collaboration turned into a romance and the two had been married. While escaping to the jazz world from time to time, Katia remained better known for the duo with her sister and their interpretation of classical music. If that is the way Katia spend most of her time, she still venture into the jazz and modern music world releasing albums with the participation of well known artists from divers horizons.
This is the case with “Shape of my heart” recorded in 2009 which is at the crossroads of Pop, Jazz and Classical. Artists participating to the recordings are Sting, Gonzalo Rubalcaba,Herbie Hancock, David Chalmin and Chick Corea with whom Katia plays an interpretation of Bill Evans “We will meet again” and is the subject of today’s post.
