TITLE: The Other Woman
They made a movie called #TheOtherWoman 4 years ago starring #KateUpton and #NickiMinaj. You can imagine how that went (though Nicki is my wife). But last night I watched “The Other Woman,” starring #NataliePortman. Portman is one of my favorite actresses. I’ll watch her in anything, hence why I watched “The Other Woman,” which shares a name with another movie starring Nicki Minaj and Kate Upton.
Or did I already state that?
This “The Other Woman” came out amid a flurry of other Portman movies during her Oscar campaign for #BlackSwan. It features another strong performance by Portman, and it’s a film that always held my interest. It also has some great moments. But...
I didn’t exactly like this movie. And I say that because there isn’t exactly much to like, contrary to what I just said.
Take the Portman character. We are supposed to feel bad for her, since she lost her baby and her stepson hates her. But she’s also a home wrecker, so...
Then there’s the #LisaKudrow character, who we pity due to the fact that her husband cheated on her with Natalie Portman. But she is so vain and vicious and unlikable, even if we should root for her.
And then there’s her 10 year old son... what an asshole. He has every right to not like Portman, but someone needs to slap the shit out of this kid. “You’re from New Rochelle,” he says to Portman, “You’re not as sophisticated as me and my mom.” Fuck you dude. Not only that, he taunts her about her dead baby. And one can’t help that the Kudrow character has wired him to be so smug.
And then there’s the husband. A cheater. Is there anyone to care about here? Um, no.
Strong acting and an intriguing story can’t save “The Other Woman” from being so damn unlikable. And what a shame. Who cares? I don’t.
