If you do one thing today listen to the @radiolab podcast episode focusing on the Korematsu case- “Radio Lab Presents: More Perfect- American Pendulum I”. I’ve listened to countless interviews and research materials on this subject but found myself completely sobbing through this one. I felt the spirit of my grandparents flowing through the voice of old recorded interviews of Fred and sweet 40’s melodies, but mainly, this episode reaffirmed and reignited one main thing for me. My ability to speak on this subject. To shed light and conversation onto these stories. Not just for Japanese Americans but for any American in need of constitutional protection.
Give this one a listen and let me know what you think. Also if you have any recommendations for other materials (on this subject or others) please please leave in the comments below. LINK IN BIO. Thank you to my incredible @travisatreo for recommending this to me he is my constant source of inspiration and intellect. 🧡🧡 #fredkorematsu #karenkorematsu #neverforget #MorePerfect

@Regrann_App from @dianagameros - Today was powerful. So grateful for all the work @aclu_norcal, @ybca and @citylightsbooks put into making this event. I learned so much today, and all the people I talked to after the event, who were in the audience, shared with me that they also felt positively charged, fired up, inspired, ready to roll up their sleeves and take action. I celebrate you @aclu_norcal and all the speakers for your courage, your love, and for igniting the light of change in all of us.

Amazing, moving event put together in two weeks by @aclu_norcal at @ybca A good reminder of where we've come from and how far we still have to go. I will bring tissues next time because it was rough. @abdisoltani was on fire. We got to hear from #karenkorematsu, daughter of Fred Korematsu, who refused to comply with the 1942 executive order authorizing internment of Japanese Americans and whose case went all the way to the Supreme Court. #jessicacabreracarmona, an immigration activist in the Central Valley who stressed the importance of intersectionality. #myrtlebraxton, an 89 year old civil rights activist with harrowing stories of what it was like to live in the Jim Crow era. #hadilmansooralmowafak, a Yemeni student at Stanford who is the plaintiff in the ACLU's lawsuit against Trump's Muslim ban, Al-Mowafak v. Trump. And @dianagameros who moved from Mexico to Grand Rapids to study music woot woot!! ✊🏿✊🏾✊🏽✊🏼✊🏻 #resist #aclu #fucktrump #stoppresidentbannon #nobannowall #firedupreadytogo

In honor of San Francisco Bay Area's own, read the story of Fred Korematsu, a Japanese American citizen, who was forced to leave his home and sent to an incarceration camp. His daughter Karen Korematsu tells the story.
Seventy-five years ago today, under President Franklin D. Roosevelt’s Executive Order 9066, all people of Japanese ancestry living on the West Coast were forced to leave their homes and report to incarceration camps. Two-thirds were American citizens. Fred Korematsu, my father, then 23, refused to go. 1944 korematsu v US is an odious and discredited artifact of popular bigotry. Stay educated my friends. #karenkorematsu #korematsuinstitute #asianamisethnicstudies

A the 2016 Tule Lake Pilgrimage I had the honor of meeting Karen Korematsu, civil rights advocate and founder of the Korematsu Institute which helps educate students about the internment of Japanese Anericans and her father Fred Korematsu's battle for freedom. Korematsu v United States ruled that Fred Korematsu, an American citizen, had to be removed from his home because of his Japanese heritage. This decision was eventually overturned and Fred Korematsu day is January 30! Teachers can get free internment camp education kits at http://www.korematsuinstitute.org #Korematsu #KarenKorematsu #KorematsuInstitute #korematsuvunitedstates #tulelakepilgrimage #JapaneseAmerican #CivilRights
