The Large-scale Cryogenic Gravitational Wave Telescope KAGRA, which is currently under construction, will capture tiny ripples of space-time with a laser interferometer. It is necessary to reduce the ground vibrations transmitted to the mirrors comprising the interferometer to less than one part in ten billion. To realize this, an ultra-high-performance vibration isolation system is used. The above photo shows it being assembled. This equipment will eventually be installed in an ultra-high vacuum chamber. Even a tiny dust particle on the mirror can degrade its optical performance. Therefore, the equipment is assembled in a clean booth.
