This quiet, anticipatory photo of Brittany & her mom in the moments leading up to the ceremony hold so much symbolism for me as a daughter and as a photographer.
Shots like this take me back to being small, 6 years old maybe 👧🏻, & needing mom’s help with everything. Doing my hair, tying my shoes, taking me to school...you name it.
But then I also think of being a little older - mom zipping up my piano recital dress as I nervously wring my hands before a big performance, her expecting much but being proud of me too... 🏆🎼 You see where I’m going with this?
And another few years more - I remember mom helping me try on prom dresses in high school, giving me allllll of her opinions, tsk-ing here & pinching fabric there...👗🛍
Then finally, wedding day arrives at last, and mom zips up the very last dress.
Maybe it all sounds a bit over emotional, but honestly guys, it’s a wedding, what do you expect? Really though, it’s images like these that pull open all the different memories boxes we carry with us, and that’s what draws me back to weddings.
Small moments will always hold so much more weight & importance over what’s epic or trending on Instagram.
