Second workout in recovery ✔️
Return of the mirror selfie ✔️😜
~ I was SOOO sore after working out on Friday 🔥, and considering the workout was comparable to a crossfit warm up, that was very humbling and a nice reminder of where I’m at. Today’s workout felt like I blinked and it was over. I think some muscle memory might’ve started to kick in. 💪🏻 My body was ready to keep going!!! But of course I didn’t, I came home and refueled with an extra snack (Siggi’s yogurt cause protein and carbs post workout)🎉

In my time working as a coach, I've noticed that my clients who have the worst relationships with exercise coming in have the least sustainable reasons to exercise.
•••
The two mindsets that I see most are:
1️⃣Linking exercise with food (i.e., using exercise as a way of "offsetting" the food we eat).
2️⃣Focusing on exercise solely as a way to change how our bodies look.
•••
Without more substance, these two reasons to exercise will erode your relationship with moving your body over time. Exercise will become a chore. It will become something you don't feel connected to or get much enjoyment from. And you probably won't do it as much as you'd like to.
•••
Exercise has to be more to us than a tool for fixing what's broken or a means to an end if we want to have a good relationship with it. That's why today on the blog I'm proposing 20 reasons to exercise that have nothing to do with weight loss or food to help you find a new and better "why" for moving your body. Head to the link in my bio (@iamglitterandgrit) to access my blog.
•••
Which reasons resonate most with you?? Let me know below in the comments!

If these statements hold true, it may be time to reconsider your relationship with movement. When these are the case, you may be causing a lot more harm than good. Movement should bring you health, not take it away.

Joyful movement is where it’s at. Join me on Wednesday at 6:30 pm (Sport & Health Worldgate) for a [mindful 🧠] indoor cycling class. We’ll tune into our bodies and what they’re telling us. Your ride will be guided by how YOU feel. You’re in control! 🚲😎

As soon as I stopped moving for weight loss was when I truly fell in love with moving my body.
:
:
The health at every size approach has significantly changed the way I eat and exercise.
:
:
Whether it was running, the gym, yoga, I'd be at it hard for hours a day, trapped in a vicious cycle of punishing myself for not being "thin" enough or for what I put in my mouth. Not fun!
:
:
Fast forward to now, it's less about the "outside" and more about how I feel. What kind of energy do I have on a particular day, what joints need more love, or what movement practice will bring me joy.
:
:
“Your body is your physical connection to the world. Becoming active can help you chip away at any bad feelings you may have had for your body, enabling you to appreciate its functionality, de-emphasize its looks, and revel in your strength and capabilities!" ~Linda Bacon~ Health at Every Size Approach.

Colorado is amazing but looking at the lake is just sad. Denver, put the water back!

I've been a fitness professional for 20 years and I don't recommend wearable fitness trackers. Why?

They can make your priority calories (or reinforce this priority), turning movement into merely a diet tool. They can also turn your focus to external feedback rather than tuning in and trusting your body's signals. For example, you might be more likely to ignore your need for rest or recovery. You might push on with intensive exercise to hit your step/calorie count whilst sick or injured. You might feel guilty on days where the number doesn't say what you had aimed for.

It's your body, your rules, so you get to decide if an activity tracker is for you. However, it's worth asking yourself these questions. Check in with yourself and see if the tracker is working for you, or if you are now working for it!

I got a second nose piercing today, and there was a jar of pixie sticks at the piercer’s station so I helped myself to two. After that I went to JuiceLand to get a fruit smoothie.

I was thinking back to my anti-refined sugar days and how for a lot of people that has become anti-ALL sugar, including things like fruit. And I just felt really happy that I don’t fuck around with that nonsense anymore.

Which is not to say that if you’ve found that you feel better/happier/healthier with limited or no sugar in your diet that that’s wrong. What you eat is your choice, and particularly if you’ve been listening to your body and you’ve realized that sugar makes you feel crappy, then I get it.

But you know what happens when I restrict sugar in any fashion? I crave it like a fiend. Because I love sweets. They make me happy. And they only make me feel bad when I eat too many of them (and my body lets me know when I’ve reached that point).

So if I restricted sugar just because I read in a magazine I should, or because my favorite social media influencer talked about how amazing it made *her* feel, it wouldn’t go so well for me. Restricting anything without having a good reason to do so has the potential to be disastrous.

I have found that for the vast majority of people it’s much more effective to add things to the diet than remove things from it. Especially if you’re attempting to remove things you love. The things that don’t make you feel good more than likely will work their way out as you find what does feel good. And the rest never needed to go in the first place. 🍰🍫🍭

What if you ran because you wanted to see a waterfall before your husband had to pick you up at 11:45 instead of running to try to beat the anxiety or burn off the delicious biscuits and gravy you ate for breakfast?

What if, for some of us, being fatter is actually healthier than being skinnier?

What if you weren’t cold all the time because you were starving yourself?

What if you didn’t have chronic pain because you rest when and for as long as you needed to?

What if your sex drive came back because you didn’t care what anyone thought about your body?

What if you were more interested in the core workout so you could easily climb mountains than show off a pointless flat stomach?

What if your fat is what allows your body the energy and joy to climb mountains?

What if you need your fat?

What if the fat that jiggles and rubs together triggers gratitude instead of fear?
What if your body didn’t actually need to be beaten in to submission?

What if everything you believed and everything the experts told you was really just drowning out your own wisdom?

What if we stopped pursuing moderation and instead let freedom come to us?

What if what we would get in return was more then moderation could ever give us?

What if, pardon my language, everyone minded their own god damn business when it came to your body and what you do with it?

What if your body, as it is in this moment, made you feel alive?

What if your body is right and all those sticks and stones and words that break your bones are just wrong?

What if something dying really does give new life to the other things around it?

What if things weren’t what they first seemed to be?

What if you knew and lived by your own what ifs?

“There’s a lot of hype around the need to have an extreme love for working out such that the more simple concept of joyful movement has been lost.”

There’s no point in doing things in life that feel like a drag, so the way you fit in exercise should be no different. Get back to a place of fun and joy, and stay motivated for your healthiest body and mind. 😁🤸 .

Strong & healthy come in all different shapes and sizes!!!
:
:
If I put a quarter away each time someone told me they wanted to get rid of their “rolls” or their “back fat” I’d be rich!!!
:
:
Over the years I’ve grown to really accept the “rolls” I have on my body in all the different places that weren’t there before. I actually find them pretty cute & sexy to be honest! To me & in MY body, “rolls” symbolize more than just something physical. They are a symbol of body health, body Acceptance, body trust, body respect and body love. :
:
Have you ever stopped to ask yourself, “what would it be like if you could make peace with your perceived body “flaws?” What other things would you finally be able to focus on in life?
:
:
Starting January I’m opening up my business to work one on one with people that want to start working toward body acceptance and inner peace in the body they are in now!
