Standing room only for author Jonathan White's presentation for his book 'Tides' in Port Angeles tonight. From tidal bores to 50' tidal locations, most interestingly he compared how sound waves (music) resemble how the moon and gravity controls tides. Worth picking this one up! Monday, April 3rd at 6pm: #ECLectureSeries w/ #JonathanWhite -- "Tides - The Science & Spirit of the Ocean" // After nearly losing his 65’ wooden schooner in a gale on a large tide in Southeast Alaska, writer, sailor, and surfer Jonathan White wanted to learn just exactly how the tide works. For his newest book, Tides: The Science and Spirit of the Ocean, Jonathan spent ten years searching for the largest, fastest, scariest, and most amazing tides in the world. In China he confronted the Silver Dragon, a twenty-five foot tidal bore that runs eighty miles upriver; in Chile he studied tide-generated electricity; in Panama and Venice he learned about sea level rise, and in the Arctic he followed an Inuit elder down a small hole through thick winter ice to gather fresh blue mussels in the cavities left by low tide. Combining photographs and stories, Jonathan takes audiences into the deepest workings of the tide around the globe. Join us Friday night 4/21/17 at 6:30 for our Jonathon White book signing and presentation of TIDES. • • •Expert mariner and marine conservationist Jonathan White's love for the sea is lifelong. He grew up diving, sailing and fishing on the beaches of Southern California, has logged more than one hundred thousand miles sailing on the Pacific and Atlantic, and has surfed all over the world. In the 1980s, he founded the Resource Institute, a nonprofit educational organization for which he hosted a renowned seminar series aboard Crusader, a 65-foot wooden schooner that sailed the Pacific Northwest. Crusader's odysseys nearly ended, however, in 1990 when the boat ran aground and was nearly destroyed on a large tide in Alaska's Kalinin Bay. Shaken and intrigued by his underestimation of tides and their power, White set off on a quest across the globe to understand the history, science, and majesty of one of our planet's most remarkable phenomena. #jonathanwhite #tides #book #signing #californiasurfmuseum #volunteer #donate #dropin #today #fun #legend #history #surfsup #love #surf #pacific #westcoast #marine #conservation #saveourseas #saveourseasfoundation #ocean #reefs #sharks #planet #important #save

No Thyself is the fifth and final studio album by the band #Magazine, and the first since their 2009 reformation. It was released on the Wire-Sound label on 24 October 2011, about 30 years after the release of their previous studio album, #Magic, #MurderandtheWeather.

Bass guitarist #BarryAdamson, while still remaining a member of Magazine, did not participate in the making of No Thyself due to prior obligations in film music. Guitarist #JohnMcGeoch had died in 2004. Both musicians were important in previous lineups. #PeteShelley, who had founded the Buzzcockswith Magazine singer #HowardDevoto and co-wrote several early Magazine songs, contributed to the writing of the first track. The album cover features the painting The Misshapen Polyp Floated on the Shores, a Sort of Smiling and Hideous Cyclops by #French artist #OdilonRedon.
