This weekend has been pretty awesome learning more about the principles and practice of yoga and how @jogajana has been able to create what she’s created. Being physically strong is only 1 part of the puzzle. Being mentally strong is an even bigger part.

This weeks Monday Tip-Off from Jana!🙌🏼

🌟Myth: Strength training means you have to use big, bulky weight machines.

“You can get just as effective results by body weight training. If you look at trapeze artists or gymnasts, they don’t lift weights. They’re constantly using their body weight to strengthen. I’ve had clients who can bench 200 lbs., and they can’t even lift a baby off the floor.”

#jogaforschools update! One of my last schools for this 2017-2018 school year. One I hold near to my ❤️. Thank you to Clifton School and @totodiger for making it happen!
In the spring I started a new project to take Joga into the schools and a portion of all proceeds goes back to charity. It’s been a great experience and one I hope to continue!

Many years ago my teaching career began in this beautiful tiny school in the West End of Winnipeg. Names of students I can still recall and others I recognize as being somewhere in my path of life but not by name...The neighborhood is still as I remember and my tiny school field hasn’t changed much. My tiny little gym was my home. My return was a bit of a secret homecoming. Secret in that it was in my own mind...I have not taught in this gym in over ten years but it felt like yesterday that I was finding creative ways to use ALL of our small spaces...running kids in the hall, making Big Hand racquets, using empty class rooms for circuits, and giving the kids in the neighborhood active experiences outside the school...extracurricular activities, loading 60 kids on public transportation- an experience all in itself...shuttling kids to LaBarrier for orienteering, heading downtown to Supreme Racquet courts, and the list goes on...The students of today have no clue the time and effort, the love and passion I poured into the walls of that building but that’s okay. I had the opportunity to meet with some new faces and faces that I remember very well 💕
Sometimes one path leads to another...and now I am able to bring something else that I am passionate about! Day 13! Another gorgeous day for an outside practice. Show casing the Joga Salutation on 1 side ;) •1 breath per movement of everything learned in segment 1.
•Purpose is to build stronger neuromuscular patterns so that the sequence is driven home into your body, into your mind into your nervous system so that each time you practice this sequence, you build strength and develop better hand/eye coordination.

Day 12 is here! Was having an off day and decided to channel my creativity. I had a chance to use some studio space and decided to play a little with the poses today in my practice. Here were some of my favourites. The last one was pretty cool as the light in the ceiling happened to line up perfectly with the heart chakra! Which is essentially the chakra associated with camel pose 🙌🏻 I didn’t even realize until I was editing! I love it when things just line up perfectly yet so unexpectedly. 😎
