🎬 #THEMOSTDANGEROUSGAME #1932 “God made some men kings, some beggars. Me, He made a hunter. My hand was made for the trigger.” They need to remake this movie already!

#foreigncorrespondent #trivia 🎞 -According to Alfred Hitchcock's interview with François Truffaut, Joseph Goebbels (Minister of Nazi Propaganda) enjoyed this film very much. -Gary Cooper later admitted to Alfred Hitchcock that he'd made a mistake in turning down the lead. -Robert Benchley was allowed to write his own lines. #alfredhitchcock #joelmccrea #laraineday #herbertmarshall #georgesanders #classicsuggestions #movietrivia

#foreigncorrespondent #trivia 📽 -Johnny Jones/Huntley Haverstock was loosely based on real life journalist Edward R. Murrow. -The ending with Joel McCrea delivering a propaganda broadcast as bombs fall on London was written (by Ben Hecht) and shot after the rest of the film was completed. It replaced a more sardonic ending in which Ffolliott (George Sanders) tells Haverstock (McCrea) how the enemies will likely cover up the incidents depicted in the main part of the film.#alfredhitchcock #joelmccrea #laraineday #herbertmarshall #georgesanders #classicsuggestions #movietrivia

#foreigncorrespondent #trivia 🗺 -Walter Wanger wanted to put lots of political elements in this film. But Alfred Hitchcock tried to reduce the political elements as much as possible. Hitchcock felt that the film would become dated since politics change from time to time. So Hitchcock tried to reduce mentioning Axis powers as much as possible in this film. -This was Alfred Hitchcock's second American film - he was hired out to producer Walter Wanger by David O. Selznick with whom he was contracted.#alfredhitchcock #joelmccrea #laraineday #herbertmarshall #georgesanders #classicsuggestions #movietrivia

#foreigncorrespondent #trivia ✈️ -Producer Walter Wanger had the story in development for several years. Originally it was about the Spanish Civil War but that war ended too quickly and therefore the story lost its relevance to audiences. Wanger insisted that the film be politically up-to-date so rewrites were happening constantly throughout production. Ultimately, 14 writers in all were involved in bringing the story to the screen. -The final cost of the film was a then-staggering $1.5 million. The costs charged to the script alone - accounting for a total of fourteen writers - was $250,000. #alfredhitchcock #joelmccrea #laraineday #herbertmarshall #georgesanders #classicsuggestions #movietrivia

#foreigncorrespondent #trivia 🔫 -Alfred Hitchcock had wanted either Barbara Stanwyck or Joan Fontaine for the female lead. -When the plane crash sequence was shot, a special tub within the studio tank had to be built for Herbert Marshall, who couldn't swim because he only had one leg (he'd lost a leg in combat in World War I). #alfredhitchcock #joelmccrea #laraineday #herbertmarshall #georgesanders #classicsuggestions #movietrivia

#foreigncorrespondent #trivia 📰 -Albert Bassermann (who played the Dutch diplomat Van Meer) couldn't speak a word of English and learned all his lines phonetically. -When this movie was made, America was not part of World War II. At this time, a number of Hollywood studios were pro-American involvement in the war. This movie is one of a number of films made during the late 1930s and early 1940s that represented pro-American intervention in the war. These films include Confessions of a Nazi Spy (1939), The Mortal Storm (1940), A Yank in the R.A.F. (1941), Man Hunt (1941) and Sergeant York (1941).#alfredhitchcock #joelmccrea #laraineday #herbertmarshall #georgesanders #classicsuggestions #movietrivia

• Joel McCrea and Kay Francis in Girls About Town, 1931 ⚓️ #joelmccrea #kayfrancis

One of the most charming interviewees I've ever had the privilege of chatting with. Wyatt McCrea, grandson of actors Joel McCrea and Frances Dee, stopped by on the #TCMFF #redcarpet to discuss his grandparents, their work-life balance, their careers and their California ranch. The Palm Beach Story has an admittedly amusing but silly ending and The Ale and Quail Club took too much of the screen time acting as a detour. Other than those flaws, the film is great and incredibly entertaining featuring witty dialogue, many very funny moments and such an authentic opening. The four main characters are all so likable and charming with all of the four actors being so well cast and delivering terrific comedic performances.

My Rating - 4
