Featured this week -- Hand Sculpted Rocking Chair by Robert "Jocko" Johnson, 1998 -- "Jocko" Johnson is best known in the automotive racing world for his revolutionary engine designs in top race cars. He later turned his design efforts to sculpting objects and furniture. The rocker was featured in the California Design '76 exhibit and book.
I like it when people think outside the box! When you look at things from a different angle you get crazy solutions! In hot rod history there has been a lot of pioneers that blazed there own trail. One of these people was Jocko Johnson. At a time when most dragsters had little in the way of a body he came up with this very cool stream body. I remember totally digging this design when I saw it in my dad's Hot Rod magazines as a kid. He was a forward thinker and very innovative. When I had heard a local collector had been able to buy some thing out of the family's estate in California, I had to see this stuff. I didn't know I would be able to even hold some of the original prototypes! Very cool to experience these museum quality pieces! #jockojohnson#jockosrocket#jockosheadporting#jockolandspeedracing#forwardthinker#outsidethebox#landspeedracings#dongarlits#chetherbert#nsra#dragracing#trailblazer#knowonesfollower
