On Thursday February 22, 2018, Members from the #jmvfc8 we’re invited to participate in the annual Career Day at @hcps_schools Edgewood Elementary in #Edgewood. Students from all grades were shown fire, rescue and emergency medical equipment as well as some of our response vehicles. One of the teachers even joined in the fun. During our time with the children, we also shared fire prevention tips, safety messages, and talked about general health topics. One of the students made a special good luck charm and presented it to our firefighter so it would keep him safe.

Although this event was for the Edgewood Elementary Students, every family can, and should, practice fire safety at home. Make sure you have a working 10 year smoke alarm on each floor and outside every sleeping area. Make sure your children know to call 911 in an emergency. Practice Exit Drills In the Home (EDITH). Ensure that everyone washes their hands frequently to stop the spread of germs.

Deputies determined that the fire started in the basement, but are still investigating the cause. They reported that the fire was discovered when the owner/occupant, who was at the neighbor's house, noticed smoke coming from the home and called 911. Nobody was inside the home at the time of the fire. Damage is estimated at $75,000. The residents are being assisted by family members. @harford_sheriff Deputies assisted with traffic control during the incident until the arrival of FVFAC Fire Police.
