Ever since the swipe update I feel the need to include multiple posts when they're short
A PSA from your favorite neighborhood Latina that is unrelated to the post but I want to do anyway: I know people mean well when they say "I don't see race." I know they're trying, at least little bit, when they say "We're all human/ the same underneath," as if that ever needed clarification. However, these sort of catchphrases, while good in intention, act in a similar fashion to "All Lives Matter" in that they erase the identities of marginalized people. In an ideal world, yes, it would be possible to "not see race." But our world is far from ideal. When you say that you do not see race, what you are really saying is that you do not see the struggles poc have. You close your eyes to our injustice and willingly ignore the fact that our differences exist and people are suffering because of it. We may all be human, but poc experience life and its struggles differently! Different races and identities must be acknowledged in order to provide a platform for change to occur.
