The Korean War was yet another milestone for aerial machines. Jet aircraft became more prevelant and this conflict showcased the first jet vs. jet combat. It also gave us the first iterations of helicopters, though their roles were very limited as the concept was still new. This war was unique in the fact that the old and the new faces of aerial combat coexisted in the skies. For instance, B-29 bombers would come in contact with early jet fighters such as the Mig-9 and Mig-15.
The planes of the Korean War were still using machine guns, and cannons to fight in the air and it would not be until 1959, 6 years after the wars end, before the first air-to-air missle would be completed and pushed into service. The war in the air was changing. And the next generation of air combat machines were going to prove that.
