When the S.S. Jeremiah O'Brien, the Last of the World War II Liberty ships, steamed through the fog and under the Golden Gate Bridge in April 1994, she began an epic voyage that a few people had dreamed of, but many more had said it was impossible. Her destination was the D-day beaches of Normandy where she has served her country nearly 50 years before. The O'Brien was a sole survivor of the 6 483 ships that ferried troops and supplies to Normandy in 1944. She is one of the two operational Liberty ships remaining of the 2 751 identical vessels of that type built during World War II. This were designed as emergency cargo ships to carry war material from the United States to bases overseas.
On this ship also some of the "Titanic" scenes has been filmed. #JeremiahOBrien
