Wednesday of last week I got a mass text message. A call that the Blackfeet needed some help with a skate contest on Friday. Miraculously I was off work and planning an east side camping trip. I was able to answer the call and we were blessed with an experience we won't soon forget. We were welcomed with open arms, our family was included in the opening prayer spoke in the native tongue, the kids were ripping, they were so hyped and every single one went home with cash money. The whole event was organized and funded by an elder "Joe Powerbuffalo" who's son got off the Rez through skateboarding. The power of this spot was visceral. One kid chatted my ear off, said he started making friends when the park was built. Said they all work hard to keep it clean. He had a strong sense of pride in the park. Truly life changing.
