FINAL: The New York Mets lost to the Atlanta Braves by a score of 3-1 in 12 innings tonight... New York suffering their first loss on the young 2017 season. Here's 'My Take' on the loss:
Some positives, and some negatives, but overall, you can't really assess too much, as it's only the 2nd game of the season. With that said, my positives definitely have to be Jay Bruce and Jacob deGrom tonight... Both guys struggled and could've each played much better last season with the Mets, and both guys are now onto blazing hot starts. Especially Bruce. He finally looked like that all-star we were looking to trade for tonight, the Bruce we've been waiting to see break out for so long.
As for the negatives, I guess inconsistency in the offense and bullpen. The fact of the matter is when your 2 starters, Noah Syndergaard and deGrom, start off the season each throwing scoreless outings, you have no excuse to lose any of those games. The starting pitching is there, we just need the bats to consistently be solid. As for the bullpen, I don't know what we could really judge them on until Jeurys Familia comes back and it's instantly improved once again. However, I don't know how much I could stress this, but for the first 2 weeks, even first month of the season, it's not so much analyzing, it's seeing guys work off the rest and slowly get back into mid-season form. And that'll take a while for some guys... that's why there's 162 games! -
With the loss, the Amazin's are now 1-1 on the year. Tomorrow, Matt Harvey will make his 2017 debut as the Mets look to take 2/3 over Atlanta! First pitch is at 7:10 PM EST.
