After a wild week and a half of van trouble, I’m happy to report that we are finally back on the road!
We left Spokane last night and have been driving through Canada ever since. In order to make our Alaska dates we need to speed through this part of the trip, putting in 12-14 hours of driving every day for four days. Sadly that means rerouting past a lot of the spots we hoped to see. I was definitely disappointed to have to skip some of the camping spots and hiking trails on our list, but the drive itself has been so magical that I can’t even try to complain.
The highway through Banff and Jasper took my breath away. We were lucky to spot a mama grizzly and her two cubs, a sweet little black bear, lots of mountain goats, a giant bull elk, and some of the most inspiring mountain-scapes I’ve seen; all right along the road.
So far this trip hasn’t been anything like what I envisioned, but it’s been a beautiful ride and I’m just happy to be moving again through these wild and wondrous spaces.
*Disclaimer: I snapped this photo from the road with a zoom lens, at a safe distance behind a giant animal fence. I feel like you don’t need me to remind you, but PLEASE never get close to a grizzly, especially if she has cubs🐻
