Director's Series: A Month With Sidney Lumet - Murder On The Orient Express.
Lumet leaves modern, gritty New York City and its subway system behind and takes Albert Finney and his audience to a snowbound Southern-Central Europe in the winter of 1935 aboard the lush Orient Express, based on the Agatha Christie murder mystery.
Lumet works wonders with large casts and this film is a wonderful example of this with a supporting cast that includes Lauren Bacall, Martin Balsam,
Ingrid Bergman, Sean Connery, Jacqueline Bisset, Jean-Pierre Cassel, John Gielgud, Wendy Hiller, Anthony Perkins, Vanessa Redgrave, Rachel Roberts, Richard Widmark, Michael York.
Bergman won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress and the film was nominated for Adapted Screenplay, Cinematography, Costume Design, Score and Best Actor for Albert Finney's performance as Hercule Poirot.
The script adaptation was written by Paul Dehn. Cinematography by Geoffrey Unsworth. Film Editing by Anne V. Coates. Production Design and Costume Design by Tony Walton. Art Direction by Jack Stephens.
The musical score is by Richard Rodney Bennett.
