I have always been fascinated by Names. I'm one of those people who will probably ask you "Does your name mean anything?" "What is the meaning of your name?" "What is the origin of your name?" "Who gave you your name?" "Is there a story behind it?" Yes! I am a curious, nosey git which at times can be irritating!
In this famous quote from Shakespeare's play “Romeo and Juliet,” Juliet argues that a person’s name is not nearly as important as whom the person really is on the inside. While that is true, attempting to choose a name for a baby is in most cases a difficult task. There may be many things to consider, such as popularity, origin, pronunciation, and family history, but one of the most important factors usually is its meaning.
For me a name isn't simply just a name, it is a lot more precious than that...they have a story of their own to tell. Names can be powerful. Names can be a crucial factor in developing your sense of self. Names may possibly shape your character and identity. Sometimes we try to live up to our names (or even run away from them!). I love meaningful names. I love historical names (no matter how old fashion they may be!). I love Biblical names, names of Jewish and Islamic prophets. I love names which are given in honour of someone; family members (especially!), artists, musicians, writers, activists, role models and so forth.
