Mondays are better with poetry at your side! I introduced our first Focus Poem of the year today and it felt good. I've received many messages about this daily activity since I started using it last year. Check out the link my bio to see a blog post from my friend Julie that explains Focus Poetry and how to start it in your classroom. ✏️❤️
Wow, wow, wow - I'm so glad that Instagram recommended this post by @artwithmrs.e because it is so gorgeous! In her words ➡️ "A few close ups of our collaborative #dotday display. Each one of my Franklin kiddos painted a unique and creative dot using analogous colors. While I was creating the display I overheard one of my students passing by say "Wow, it looks so magical". Mission accomplished. ✔️💗"
Well we talked like pirates and had a ball dressing up like them!!! I'm done for the day! First Grade Team plus our bonus teammate but minus one. 🤷🏽♀️ We can never all be in the same place at the same time. Lol #iteachfirst#ilovemyjob#secondyearteacher#firstgradefun#MooreTogether They say it's Johnny Appleseed Day next week...let me go gather 🍎🍏🍎🍏for homemade applesauce and apple crafts!
One of my goals this year is to help my students be reflective and "think about their learning." Every day we reflect on our math and reading. I want them to take ownership of their learning and mindfully consider what they are successful at and what they still need to work on. Today I read with a kiddo and he rocked a couple stories. Then we got to a story with a phonics pattern he wasn't familiar with. After a few pages of struggling we stopped and talked about "er, ir, ur" and he decided he needed to practice it some more. About 15 minutes later it was reflection time. This was his reflection... Positive: Today I read good to my teacher. What I need to work on: I need to know my er sounds. This little 6 year old took the interaction we had, reflected on it, and prepared himself to become a better reader by making a plan for meeting his needs. 😲😁👏🏼🙌🏼👌🏼 He deserves to be bragged on because----he is stinkin awesome! #studentwin#iteachfirst#teachersofig#proudteacher#reflectivelearners#ownyourlearning#kidsrock
