This week I would like to introduce you all to Sarah Hopkins, M.Ed, CCC, RCT-C. Sarah is a Career Counsellor with Career Service. Read about Sarah below!! ↓↓ 1) About yourself? What’s your favourite past time?
I am a Haligonian and a Saint Mary’s Alumnus. I have a BA with Honours in Psychology and completed my master’s in Counselling Psychology over on “the rock” (i.e., Newfoundland). I recently found my way back to Saint Mary’s as a Career Counsellor with Career Services. My background includes psychological assessment with children and adults; rehabilitation (e.g., helping individuals with workplace injuries secure employment) and many jobs within the retail/customer service industry (I miss the clothing discounts). In my spare time, I enjoy hiking with my chocolate lab, Grizzly; being in the sun (I get major sun FOMO) and curling up with a coffee and a good book.
2) What do you do for Career Services? Do you have any specialities within the department?
I am a Career Counsellor with Career Services. I help students reflect on their interests, values, experiences and discover career opportunities that are meaningful to them. I also help out with Career Services promotion, including, our recent #italladdsup campaign!
3) What advice would like to give a student?
Make connections with your peers, community members and faculty - you never know where a connection will lead! Networking has been a key strategy in advancing my career.
If you feel like you can relate to Sarah's interests and ideals, then next time you stop by to speak to a Career Counsellor, request to meet with her! #builtforSMUccess #dowhatyoudo
