-NIGHTMARES OF A YOUNG BLACK MAN-
He screamed "Don't move or I'll shoot!"
I froze. I've never been more scared in my life.
Heart beating a thousand times a minute.
Stomach in my throat.
Again he yells "Don't move or I'll shoot!"
How did I get here.
This can't be real.
I'm way too young to die.
Then the first tear rolls down my face.
As I realize these may be my last moments alive.
I look over to my friend.
He's more anxious than me.
I hear another time "Don't move or I'll shoot!!"
A Bang goes off!! For a second everything goes black.
I open my eyes still alive, so I run.
He's fallen. My friend wounded.
Now the guns drawn at me.
He says "I said don't move or I'll..."
I feel heat in my body.
I open my eyes.
Still alive but blood running I fall.
I beg "Please Sir I'm not moving."
My friend includes "Sir he doesn't have a weapon!"
I lay there stomach down, hands up, blood running.
"Please Sir..." again a BANG!!
Things get darker.
I open my eyes. My vision is a bit cloudier. "Sir he's not moving!! He doesn't have a weapon!!"
Feeling the piercing of each shot.
I know this is it.
My hands fall. I drop my head.
I'm running out of air.
I see red and blue flashing lights approaching.
It's too late.
I'm confused, though my heart is already easy.
I did everything he asked me to.
I was yards away from him.
My friend and I begged his mercy.
Where did I make the mistake?
What went wrong?
I raise up in a panic.
Gasping for air.
Face wet. Chest pounding.
It's dark. I look around.
I see my wife to my left still sleeping.
My kids in the other room resting.
I pause. Take a moment of silence.
Pray and then start my day.
Realizing my nightmare is reality.
