Inktober Prompt 19: Kelpie. A Carnivorous supernatural horse creature, possible fae, from British, Irish, and Welsh Folklore. It takes the form of a green black horse that always appears at night to tempt people to ride it by bodies of water. If they do the Kelpie immediately jumps into the water where it proceeds to eat the rider. One way to tell if a horse is a Kelpie is the mane and tail will be wet, sometimes strung with river weed, it’s hoof prints will also be wet. #inktober2018 #inktober #mythology #britishfolklore #irishfolklore #welshfolklore #kelpie

[ inktober day 19 - banshee ]

the banshee comes from irish folklore!! they had a tradition of keening women who sailed a lament as part of mourning (and you could hire professionals!) banshees, who often assumed the form of a sweet virgin from the family who died young or an old widow, were essentially keening spirits who heralded the death of a family member

[🇬🇧 in the stories] Buongiorno!

Now I do love a good horror story and I’ve always wanted to visit Loftus Hall... but this story of the stranger with the hooved feet playing cards has been doing the rounds for centuries in Ireland... 🤔 But, in saying that I just cannot wait to go visit this place when I get to come home for a holiday! #loftushall #cowexford #wexford #hookpeninsula #ireland #irishtourism #ghoststories #halloween🎃 #irishfolklore #thebanshee #theoccult #ouijaboard #ghosts #ghostadventures #hookhead 👻🎃👻🎃

Children of Lire
In the story there are four children who were turned into swans by their stepmother....

Food,folklore and faiytales

Went here to for a wonderful evening with a nationsl Irish historian that explained where and why old lire and fairytales came about.... this is also one of ghe oldest pubs in Dublin! Imagine having drinks where others sat back to the 1100s!

Inktober day 4: #Spell.
I present a very young Fuamnach from Irish folklore this time, who has not quite mastered the transformation spell.. This poor kitten is only changed into half a butterfly!
Fuamnach was a druidess who learned a lot of her magic from her fosterfather, a druid of the Tuatha de Danann. She is most well known from the story of #tochmarcétain as being the wife of Midir and who turns a Young Etáin into a purple flying creature from jealousy when Midir brought her home.. (he was still married 🤔😅) #Inktober18 #Inktober #inktoberprompts #inktober2018 #irishartist #irishfolklore #inktoberday4 #illustration #Fuamnach #magic #druid #powerfulwomen #girlsinanimation #marysmythart @Inktober

In October, we find ourselves in the season of the Wise Woman. For this reason, I've done a great deal of learning about the crone archetype personified in the Celtic and Irish dark goddess, The Morrigan. Truth be told, I was mainly drawn towards her because of her ability to make me feel, quite frankly, a little uncomfortable. If she were a friend, she wouldn't be the one you'd go to if you wanted to hear a sugarcoated, superficial response to your problems. She's the friend who would tell you to get your shit together and start taking responsibility for your life. The Morrigan would tell you to own it — all of it — and remember the badass you truly are 🕸️
.

Often times, we fail to recognize that true love doesn't always feel warm and fuzzy. If a parent gives in to every demand of their child, they're not loving them. They're enabling them. Likewise, if anyone in our lives, including our own Self, always pats us on the back and tells us it's not our fault, we'll never have any real motivation to change what desperately needs to be changed. We'll feel as if everything is outside of our own control, and wait for someone else to "fix" our problems. Sisters, this cannot be. While many of the circumstances we face will inevitably be unjust, we cannot expect anyone to save us. We must save ourselves. Be weary of anyone — family, friends, gurus, and spiritual teachers alike — who keep you in a constant state of codependence, for a true teacher will aim to empower you, so that you can then empower yourself and others 🔑✨
.

The Morrigan is exactly that — the teacher who's going to ask you the tough questions you'd really rather not answer. The teacher who's going to poke your ribs a little, and take you into a state of raw vulnerability. The teacher who you, in your immaturity, greatly fear and dislike. Nonetheless, she's also the teacher you grow to deeply respect and honour in your maturity. The teacher you look back upon with fondness in your heart because she challenged you like no one else cared to. She's the teacher who reminds her students of not only their ability to survive, but their ability and to bloom in the midst of seemingly insurmountable circumstance 🖤

The Tain. 1974 by Desmond Kinney. Hiding in here is ‘The great Irish epic tale, Táin Bó Cuailnge, the Cattle Raid of Cooley, set 2000 years ago, and the life of its hero, Cúchulainn, who single-handedly defended Ulster against an invasion by Queen Maeve of Connacht to steal the Brown Bull of Coole’ (Richard Marsh) #thetain #setanta #georgianhouse #urbansketcher #dublintown #cuchulainn #irishfolklore #queenmaeve
