I'm just going to drop this here.
This is the video of a young man being beaten by white supremacists in #Charlottesville. To see SO MANY people walk by with pity or simply with their cameras rolling- and not offer support in that moment: Wow. I can only hope I would have asked others to support me in intervening. It need not be this way. It's said that they taunted him, followed him, and then blocked / attacked him in the garage. "Die, Nigger!!" were the words from one attacker.
THIS is why your silence is deadly. Doesn't this remind you of the 1960's? This is what happens when we don't deal with our history and the current "now"-- we are doomed to repeat it.
I challenge you to watch. Listen. Reflect- what would you do if you were a bystander.... Do you talk to your children about this BAD behavior? Do you create community with those who are different from you? Do you find ways to personally help liberate people who are oppressed? Do you ASK questions and LISTEN? Or, do you compare this to BLM ( see my note below) and make excuses and stay silent and pretend this doesn't happen? So many people are silent in families when issues happen, thus families are hurting. So many people are silent in communities, thus, people/communities are hurting and broken. Will you speak out? When you are silent, you become "complicit." #BeBrave #Courage #SpeakOut #Interrupt #FightForHumanDignity
EDIT: Let's not compare this to BLM. Black Lives Matter (as an organization) has never done this to anyone. There may have been CORRUPT people at a BLM MOVEMENT who chose to display hate, but I challenge you not to make it about "BLM". The organization calls for "unity and the fair / just treatment of Black lives from law enforcement and within the criminal justice system"... not to beat people. But when we study history, we see the KKK has ALWAYS been anti-good; anti-Black; anti-peace; anti-equality/justice. Their foundation / what they stand for is the ANTITHESIS of good. They literally hung people who looked like me. They burned down black folks' homes & churches. They murdered tens of thousands of people- simply b/c of their skin color. So, that's an unfair comparison and it's
