🏝 Summer is here and everyone wants to shape up. One of the first things people think of, is more cardio… right? Well it depends.. Let’s get into it.

📉 Before I talk about cardio specifically, let’s talk about what it takes to lower your body fat %.
-
1️⃣ You need to be in a calorie deficit to lose fat.
.
2️⃣ Lift weights. Without strength training, dieting will only leave you soft and weak. Plus the more muscle you have the greater your resting metabolic rate and the more calories you’ll burn.

🚴🏼 Now cardio comes in to supplement your diet and lifting regimen (unless you’re training for something specific).
-
🏃 A lot of people take up running and don’t see results because they just eat back what they burn.
-
🙍🏼‍♂️ For example, if a 185-pound person running at an eight-minute mile pace burns 555 calories in 30 minutes, then goes and eats a nice healthy meal to “fuel up” afterwards, usually they just replace what they just burned.

🤔 So am I saying cardio is a huge waste of time?

❗️Of course not! It still burns fat and increases endurance and more importantly for your health, it strengthens your heart and lowers your blood pressure.

🏠 But the take home point is this:

🚣 Exercise of any kind (when done independently from diet changes) doesn’t make that much of a different for weight loss.

🍺 All of this means that lifting weights and doing cardio is well and good, but unless you’re in a caloric deficit, the only six-pack you’ll see will be from Budweiser.

🏋🏻 Each cardio type trains a different energy system, so each is important to develop for well-rounded fitness but none can replace weight training and diet when it comes to getting beach-ready abs.
