It's Wednesday and the first day this week that I've worked out.

The truth is, I really and truly didn't want to. I wasn't in the mood to perform a single exercise.

I wanted to just relax because I'm tired.

I thought about the fact that I promote making health and fitness a lifestyle, not a fad.

I thought about how I teach women how to make time 30 minutes, 3 times per week to exercise.

I thought that if I had these expectations of my clients then why shouldn't I have the same expectations of myself.

DO YOU NEED A LIFTING BELT 🏋🏼

First let's look at some of the facts, weight lifting belts are nothing new and if you look around your training facility I'm pretty sure there will be someone doing some fancy isolation exercise like a cable bicep curl while strapped into a lovely cushioned belt.

See many people believe that wearing a lifting belt will alter the size of your waist, improve your form, protect your back and help you function better, these are all false.

Firstly we cannot genetically change our waist structure, yes we can loose weight or enhance some muscle tissue that could give the illusion of a smaller waist, but to actually make someone's hip structure smaller not a chance. In fact constantly wearing a lifting belt can actually decrease your core strength, wrap you in a false sense of security and worse actually lead to muscular imbalances.

Your body actually has its own inner belt, a set of muscles and their primary purpose is to stabilise your spine along with preventing injury, the rectus abdominals, internal and external obliques and the erector spinae to name a few. Obviously that being said they need to be healthy and functioning right to be able to do this.So is there a time and a place for a lifting belt? Absolutely and they are popular among power lifters and phenomenally strong body builders, but these guys tend to have healthy functioning muscles and really strong backs, not to mention that when they wear lifting belts its to shift some non-human weights. They are also not using it to protect there lower back but to actually create intra abdominal pressure (IAP), they are also not trying to get a small waist. In fact weight lifting belts should be worn around abdomen and not your hips in the first place. --------------------------------
Conclusion in my opinion unless your shifting some serious weight with good form, ditch the belt and especially if your doing a seated tricep pushdown. --------------------------------
